Invisalign™

The Invisalign System is a trademarked treatment, also referred to as a"aligner therapy," whereby the adult patient "wears" a customized set of clear "aligners" which are designed by the orthodontist and a California-based hi-tech health company using computer-precise techniques. (There are now other companies such as "Clear Correct" that provide the same service.) The aligners closely cover the teeth and are virtually undetectable even from a short distance away. The treatment planning involves the use of the computer and the Internet.

Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and is easily removed for eating, brushing and flossing. As each aligner is replaced with the next, teeth move gradually week by week until the treatment is finished.

Aligner therapy is just for adults and dentally mature teens and only a small percentage of patients seeking treatment are candidates for aligner therapy. However, on-going research at several universities and in selected private practices may lead to more applications of this technique.

Dr. Wintner is among the first group of orthodontists who have studied this technique, which is a prerequisite to becoming certified by Align Technologies to provide the Invisalign treatment.
